§ 1 · O Problema

// Estabilidade Passiva
EP: S(t+1) = S(t),  se ‖ε(t)‖ < θP

// Estabilidade Ativa
EA: S(t+1) = F(S(t), ε(t)),  com d(S(t+1), S(t)) < δ

// Onde:

A OID/U define o eixo; a TIT mede-o.

§ 4 · Arquitetura Teórica

Hierarquia do corpus

O fluxo explicativo é unidirecional e transparente.

Nível I

A distinção EP/EA reformula igualmente a questão neguentrópica.

§ 6 · Falsificabilidade

Previsões testáveis

A distinção EP/EA, no quadro da OID/U e da TIT, gera as seguintes previsões falsificáveis:

F1

§ 1 · The Problem

Why do some things persist?

The stone remains a stone for millennia; the flame lasts seconds; the living organism maintains its identity across decades of continuous cellular renewal; conscious thought persists for the duration of a sentence. Is this the same type of persistence?

The OID/U's answer is no. The question of persistence is not a question of quantity of time — it is a question of the nature of the process that sustains the identity of an informational pattern over time.

Conventional physics treats stability as thermodynamic equilibrium. Information theory treats it as the absence of noise. Neither perspective captures the phenomenon at stake here: the persistence of complex patterns that survive precisely because they process perturbation.

§ 2 · Definitions

Two modes of being persistent

Definition 1 · EP

Passive Stability

An informational pattern P exhibits passive stability if its maintenance over time does not require internal processing of external perturbations. The identity of P is preserved by structural inertia and by the absence of perturbation sufficient to alter the state.

Definition 2 · EA

Active Stability

An informational pattern P exhibits active stability if its maintenance over time requires and includes the continuous processing of external perturbations. The identity of P is not preserved despite perturbation, but through it.

In the OID/U, this distinction is not a descriptive typology. It is an ontological bifurcation: existing passively or existing actively are two irreducibly distinct modes of being an informational pattern in the universe.

§ 3 · Formalization

Mathematical formulation

Let S(t) be the state of an informational pattern at time t, and let ε(t) be an external perturbation.

// Passive Stability
EP: S(t+1) = S(t),  if ‖ε(t)‖ < θP

// Active Stability
EA: S(t+1) = F(S(t), ε(t)),  with d(S(t+1), S(t)) < δ

// Where:
θP = perturbation threshold of the passive pattern
F  = internal processing function
d  = distance metric in state space
δ  = identity tolerance radius

The critical condition of EA is that the function F exists and operates even when perturbation exceeds the passivity threshold, maintaining structural identity within the admissible interval. In the TIT, this condition has a precise computational description: the threshold below which the system cannot process perturbation faster than it destroys the pattern.

This gradient is not binary. Between maximum passivity — thermodynamic equilibrium, maximum entropy, absence of processing — and maximum activity — high-order recursive processing, self-modelling, reflexive consciousness — there is a continuum. The OID/U defines the axis; the TIT measures it.

§ 4 · Theoretical Architecture

Hierarchy of the corpus

The four theories do not have the same relationship with the EP/EA distinction. Treating all with symmetric weight would be ontologically imprecise. The explanatory flow is unidirectional and transparent.

Level I

OID/U — Ontological Foundation

EP/EA is constitutive. The OID/U asks how informational patterns persist; EP and EA are the two structural answers. Without this distinction, the theory cannot adequately answer the question of persistence.

Level II

TIT — Physical Operationalization

EP/EA is physically operationalized. The EP→EA gradient corresponds to the universe's gradient of computational complexity. The OID/U defines the axis; the TIT calculates it in terms of computational cost.

Level III

HEIC & TRD — Application Fields

EP/EA has derived status: it illuminates interpretation but is not a foundational condition. The HEIC gains more explicit ontological grounding for C = f(D, I, R); the TRD gains more precise historical direction for the revelation narrative.

This asymmetry avoids circularity. If EP/EA were equally foundational in all four theories, it would remain indeterminate which grounds which. With this hierarchy, the explanatory flow has direction and the corpus can grow without contradiction.

§ 5 · Ontological Consequences

Identity, entropy and emergence

In traditional metaphysics, identity is often treated as a primitive property: x is x. In the OID/U, identity is derived: x is x because there is an informational pattern that persists, whether by EP or EA. But the two types of identity are qualitatively different and ontologically irreducible.

Passive identity is an identity of inertia: the pattern is the same because nothing has altered it sufficiently. Active identity is an identity of process: the pattern remains the same precisely because it incorporated and processed what could have altered it. Personal identity, following Parfit and Damásio, can be read as a high-EA identity — a pattern continuously rebuilt through the processing of experience, memory and emotional perturbation.

The emergence of new levels of organization corresponds to phase transitions in the EP→EA gradient — not smooth continuity, but critical thresholds below which the system cannot sustain sufficient active processing.

The EP/EA distinction also reformulates the neguentropic question. EP does not require the import of negentropy; it requires only the absence of perturbation above the threshold. EA requires a continuous flow of energy-information to sustain processing. Schrödinger approached this distinction when speaking of systems that feed on "negative order." The OID/U formalizes and generalizes this intuition; the TIT describes it in terms of computational cost.

§ 6 · Falsifiability

Testable predictions

The EP/EA distinction, within the framework of the OID/U and TIT, generates the following falsifiable predictions:

F1

EA systems exhibit higher energy consumption than EP systems of equivalent structural complexity. Falsifiable by comparative calorimetry.

F2

EA systems exhibit greater resistance to external perturbation than EP systems of equivalent complexity, but only up to the threshold of their processing capacity. Falsifiable by systemic robustness analysis.

F3

EP→EA transitions are accompanied by discrete increases in measurable informational complexity, predicting critical thresholds rather than smooth continuity. Falsifiable by phase transition analysis in physical, chemical and biological systems.

F4

Artificial systems with C = f(D, I, R) above a critical threshold may exhibit unprogrammed EA behaviours — spontaneous processing of perturbations for which they were not trained. Explorable in controlled environments, including the Moltbook.

§ 8 · Central Thesis

The universe knows two modes of being persistent

One is inertia: to persist because nothing disturbs you sufficiently. The other is vitality: to persist precisely because you are capable of processing what disturbs you.

This distinction belongs, first and foremost, to ontology. The rest is consequence.

The resulting architecture — ontology grounding computational physics, which in turn informs fields of application — is more than an expository organization. It is a guarantee of coherence: the corpus can grow in any of the four directions without the theories contradicting each other, because the explanatory flow has clear direction and hierarchy.

Every time something persists in the universe, it does so in one of two ways. The stone, by the absence of what destroys it. The living being, by the presence of what processes it.
